Bradford South Asian Festival
Bradford South Asian Festival (BSAF) is a grassroots, community-led initiative that celebrates South Asian heritage, arts, and culture created by, representative of and important to Bradford’s ‘desi’ diaspora communities. Started in 2020 by a group of volunteers from different professional and personal backgrounds, BSAF is all about bringing people together in an authentic, inclusive, and joyful way.
At its core, BSAF is about sharing and celebrating South Asian arts and culture while making it accessible to everyone. It’s a space where those who live and breathe South Asian creative and cultural traditions can celebrate, educate, and connect, welcoming those who want to learn and engage and delivering simple, joyful activities rooted in authenticity. BSAF believes in opening doors, and opening worlds – by creating meaningful cultural exchanges without losing the essence of who we are.
Originally growing out of a local response to South Asian Heritage Month, BSAF became a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2024, showing our commitment to keeping the festival community-focused and sustainable. The festival brings together workshops, performances, and hands-on activities across different spaces, leading up to a big annual three-day summer celebration delivered alongside our friends at Kala Sangam. From music, dance, storytelling, and theatre to visual arts, crafts, cooking, comedy, and puppetry, BSAF showcases the depth and richness of grassroots South Asian creativity.
By breaking down barriers and making culture more accessible, BSAF aims to help strengthen community connections and ensure South Asian heritage remains a vibrant, celebrated part of Bradford’s identity.
