Throughout the day, keep an eye out for our special guest Crankie Box artists as they journey through Storywala, capturing the moments that make the festival so special. They’ll be listening to conversations, sketching memorable discoveries and gathering inspiration from the creativity unfolding across Storyland—from children’s artwork and storytelling to dance, calligraphy and shared moments of joy.
Together, these sketches, stories and creations will become The Story of Storywala—a unique illustrated tale created live during the festival. Every conversation, every creation and every story shared could become part of the final performance.
Join us for the final telling of The Story of Storywala, bringing together the sketches, stories and memories collected throughout the festival into one beautiful moving ‘crankie box’ performance.
A crankie is a centuries-old visual storytelling device featuring an illustrated paper or fabric scroll that is wound onto two spools and manually cranked inside a viewing box to tell a moving story.
As the illustrated scroll unfolds, relive the day’s most memorable moments and celebrate the many ways stories connect us across generations, cultures and communities. A story within a story, this joyful finale is the perfect ending to a day of creativity, discovery and shared storytelling. There will be two performances, one at the end of the Storyland day and one to close the festival starting at 2:45pm and 5:45pm in The Main Hall
