Rhythm, storytelling, and precision.

Step into Kathak – one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. Our Kathak dance classes in Bradford invite you to explore a rich heritage of storytelling, intricate footwork (Tatkar), and rhythmic precision.

Taught by Dr Mitul Sengupta from Rhythmosaic, this class draws from the Lucknow style (or gharana) of Kathak while embracing Rhythmosaic’s distinctive fusion of modern movement and contemporary dance.

What is Kathak?

Derived from the Sanskrit word Katha (meaning “story”), Kathak is a powerful form of expression that combines graceful movement with percussive rhythms. At Bradford Arts Centre, our classes are designed to be accessible to everyone, from those looking to connect with classical traditions to dancers curious about how Kathak can be combined with contemporary dance to create a fresh, engaging style.

What to Expect:

  • Rhythmic Mastery: Learn the complex footwork and lightning-fast pirouettes (Chakkars) that define the style.
  • Expressive Storytelling: Explore Abhinaya – the art of using facial expressions and hand gestures (Mudras) to convey emotion.
  • Physical & Mental Discipline: Build core strength, focus, and a deep understanding of Indian classical music and Tala (rhythm).

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique, our expert-led sessions provide a supportive space to grow.

For anyone new to the class please email rhythmosaicoffice@gmail.com before attending your first class.
